Harry Potter Synopses: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (also known as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the US) is the first novel in the beloved fantasy series written by J.K. Rowling. It introduces readers to the magical world of Harry Potter, a young boy who discovers that he is a wizard on his eleventh birthday.

Living with his neglectful and abusive aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, Harry’s life takes an unexpected turn when he receives a series of mysterious letters addressed to him in green ink. Despite his aunt and uncle’s efforts to keep him away from the letters, a giant named Rubeus Hagrid arrives on Harry’s birthday and reveals the truth: Harry is a wizard and has been accepted to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Hagrid escorts Harry into the wizarding world, where he learns about his true heritage, makes new friends like Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, and discovers the magical wonders of Hogwarts. As Harry starts his first year at Hogwarts, he also begins to uncover the mysteries surrounding his past, particularly his connection to the dark wizard who killed his parents, Lord Voldemort.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second book in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. In this installment, Harry returns to Hogwarts for his second year and finds himself facing new challenges and mysteries.

The story begins with Harry spending another miserable summer with the Dursleys, his aunt and uncle. He is visited by Dobby, a house-elf, who warns him not to return to Hogwarts because he believes that terrible things are going to happen. Despite Dobby’s warnings, Harry is determined to return to school. With the help of Ron Weasley and his twin brothers Fred and George, Harry is rescued in a flying car.

Back at Hogwarts, strange and ominous events start occurring. Students are found mysteriously petrified, seemingly turned to stone. Harry begins to hear mysterious voices and discovers that he can understand a strange language that no one else can hear. As the attacks continue, Harry and his friends become determined to uncover the truth behind the Chamber of Secrets, a hidden part of Hogwarts’ history that holds dark secrets.

With the help of Ron, Hermione, and others, Harry uncovers the connection between the Chamber of Secrets, a dangerous monster, and the past of Hogwarts founder Salazar Slytherin. The mystery deepens as the trio tries to figure out who is responsible for opening the chamber and controlling the monster within.

In 1997 my mother, an avid reader all of her life, was 83 years old. She had gone blind several years previously but continued to “read” via audio books.

I had never heard of Harry Potter but saw an elaborate display of the book “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” in our local book store. Since the audio book had so many discs I bought a copy thinking it would entertain my mother for a long time. This first book, and all the following books in the series entertained her for ten years. (Through 2007) She died in 2012 at the age of 98.

Thank you J.K. Rowling for giving my mother an enchanting way to spend her final years.

      *It’s

      *Sorcerer’s
      *Stone
      *right

And it IS Philosopher’s Stone. Sorcerer’s Stone was a one-off version made for the USA, because they felt Americans were too ignorant to read a book with the words “Philosopher” in the title.

I think we may have just seen an example of that ignorance, LOL!
