Order of Boy Fortune Hunters Books

The Boy Fortune Hunters series is a series of young adult adventure novels by American novelist L. Frank Baum, using the pseudonyms of Capt. Hugh Fitzgerald and later Floyd Akers. Unlike most of Baum’s work, the series is told in first person narrative by the protagonist, 16 year-old Sam Steele. Sam’s father is a sea captain who was reported killed in a shipwreck. After being cheated of his inheritance, he finds his uncle and they set sail in the Pacific. Sam is described as “capable, brave, enterprising, likable.”

The Boy Fortune Hunters series began in 1906 with the novel Sam Steele’s Adventures on Land and Sea (later re-published as The Boy Fortune Hunters in Alaska). The series lasted six novels, ending in 1911 with the novel The Boy Fortune Hunters in the South Seas. Below is a list of L. The Boy Fortune Hunters in Panama was originally published as Sam Steele’s Adventures in Panama by Capt. Hugh Fitzgerald and re-published as The Amazing Bubble Car. The Boy Fortune Hunters in Egypt was later re-titled The Treasure of Karnak. The Boy Fortune Hunters in China was later re-published under the title The Scream of the Scared Ape.
