Duke de Richleau is the protagonist in a series of historical thriller/occult novels by English author Dennis Wheatley. The Duke was born in Russia to an exiled French nobleman and a Russian princess. He joined the French army to his father’s dismay, but his career in the military ended due to his involvement in a coup. He fled France and found asylum in Britain.
Dennis Wheatley began his Duke de Richleau series in 1933 with the novel The Forbidden Territory. The series lasted 11 books, concluding in 1970 with Gateway to Hell.
