After reading The Hunger Games, a 12 year-old girl was so inspired, she sat down and started writing herself.

“It took about 2-and-a-half months to write it, but when I was happy with it, it was about seven months later when it came back from the publisher’s in a book,” said 12-year-old Carolann Plank.

Actually, she was 11 when she started writing As Far As You Know.

The fantasy novel is 245 pages and it’s about a 15 year-old girl who has to raise her little sister after their parents abandon them.

Carolann’s mom found the manuscript and originally assumed her daughter must have downloaded it. However, she is a little concerned about the subject matter.

“I said to her that people are going to think you come from an abused family because it had some violent scenes in there,” said Carolann’s mom Brenda Plank.

“She’s not from an abused family. She comes from a very loving family, but she just has an imagination,” she added.

With her writing debut out of the way, Carolann now has future plans in mind.

“I’m going to write another book, but it won’t be a sequel,” she explained. “I also plan to shoot a movie about my first book this summer starring my friends.”
