Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures has signed a five-year deal with Rise Entertainment, which will provide financial backing for several new projects, including a film adaptation of Christ the Lord by Anne Rice.

The bestseller is about a 7 year-old Jesus Christ. The story is described as “a sweeping tale of faith and fear, danger and discovery as the boy Jesus and his family return to the war-torn Holy Land.” The screenplay was written by Betsy and Cyrus Nowrasteh, the latter of which will direct. Filming will begin in March in Italy. Columbus has stated that they’re not looking to cast big stars and they hope to make it on a reasonable budget.

Another book-to-film adaptation that is in 1492 Pictures’ plans is Home Front by Kristin Hannah. Chris Columbus will direct the film himself, which starts filming the summer. The story is described as a “profoundly honest look at modern marriage and a dramatic exploration of the price of war on an ordinary American family.” 1492 Pictures will be looking for stars for the lead actress and actor roles.
