While Rizzoli & Isles series is a much enjoyed cable television series based on a crime fiction series, the Tess Gerritsen is not the only one of its kind to receive that treatment.

Kathy Reichs has authored 15 Tempe Brennnan novels, which has been adapted to the Fox television series “Bones.”

However, a few changes were made to the Temperance Brennan character in order to create the Bones TV show. Kathy recalls, “In Season 1, I got quite a few e-mails saying, ‘Wait a minute. This isn’t Tempe from the books. This is different.’ But now I tend to get, ‘Initially I was resistant, but now I love both.'”

Reichs herself considers the TV series somewhat of a prequel to the book series.

“On TV, she’s in her 30s,” Reichs says. “In my books, I’m a little vague on the age, but she’s clearly past 40. And in the books, she’s more sophisticated. Her people skills are better. She is more polished. She has had more life experience.

“I like that they’re separated, because when I go to write a book, I’m not impacted by what’s going on on TV.”
