With the Jack Reacher movie set to come out this Christmas, director Christopher McQuarrie has already set his sights on another major author’s work.

McQuarrie is in talks to adapt the novel Without Remorse by Tom Clancy. While the 1993 novel is apart of the same series as Clancy’s Jack Ryan books, the novel is focused on John Clark rather than Jack Ryan.

The character had previously been portrayed by Willem Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger.

Below is the original synopsis for Without Remorse:

His code name is Mr. Clark. And his work for the CIA is brilliant, cold-blooded and efficient. But who is he really? In a harrowing tour de force, Tom Clancy shows how an ordinary man named John Kelly crossed the lines of justice and morality — to become the CIA legend, Mr. Clark.

It is an unforgettable journey into the heart of darkness. Without mercy. Without guilt. Without remorse.
