The eighth Jesse Stone CBS movie will be the last to air on CBS, as confirmed by its producer.

The latest movie starring Tom Selleck aired on May 20th and was watched by almost 13 million. However, the audience was mainly old people; the Robert B. Parker adaptation received only a 1.2 rating in the key 18-49 demo.

Michael Brandman, who has taken over writing the Jesse Stone novels, has stated that CBS notified them that they would not be ordering any more movies.

Given the rating, Brandman noted he and Selleck “are surprised CBS was so wedded to those [younger] demographics. It’s really hard for us to grasp.”
