Albert, a 40 year-old orangutan who lives at the Gdansk Zoo in Poland, has got quite the taste for classic lit. He /won’t get to sleep at night unless zookeeper Michael Krause reads up to 50 pages of novels like Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

Before trying reading to them, the keepers tried giving them snacks and wearing them out, but nothing would take until Michael Krause starting reading to Albert and his partner Raya (who prefers thrillers and drama).

“I didn’t know what to do until I pulled out a book I was reading during a break and within a couple of minutes they were trying to read over my shoulder,” Michael said.

Albert also enjoys Charles Dickens, while Raya likes Karl May.
