British horror author James Herbert has won a long-standing bet with Stephen King.

The bet? Who would see a real ghost first.

Herbert claims that he and a friend were having drinks at a hotel when his friend saw a shadowy figure pass by the doorway. Ten minutes later, Herbert would see the same ghost in the very same spot.

Herbert insists that the drinks had nothing to do with what he saw, or thought he saw. No details on the bet were revealed.

Herbert’s latest novel, Ash, was released by Pan Macmillan on August 30th.
