Tom Cruise Defends “Jack Reacher” Casting
Jack Reacher fans have been up-in-arms ever since Tom Cruise was cast as the character. The main reason? Because Reacher is written as 6’5″ and over 200 lbs., whereas Cruise is 5’7″ (at best) and trim.
“You know, [Lee Child] created the character, I had my own opinion that I didn’t say to Lee and then he came back and pretty much reflected what I had felt about it. But had he said ‘look, I’d rather not,’ I would not have played the character,” Cruise said.
Cruise said that he considers Reacher’s size a “characteristic,” rather than the entire character.
The film, simply titled Jack Reacher, is based on the Reacher novel One Shot and is set to hit theatres in the U.S. on December 21st.
