Welcome to December!

I must admit November was a disappointing reading month for me.  The Jack Reacher series is one of my favourite series and I started his new book immediately – and man, I did NOT like it.

I just wasn’t invested in Night School.  It took me over 2 weeks just to finish the book and all previous Reacher books I stretch over a maximum of 2 days.  It started off pretty neat too but then it went downhill fast.  It wasn’t that it was bad or anything – I just found myself not caring about it at all.  If you read it – what did you think?

I’d mentioned last month I’d read all of the Myron Bolitar books by Harlan Coben except the last one – and that I’d been told to read the Mickey Bolitar series first.  Well after finishing Reacher I read the Mickey Bolitar trilogy in the span of just 3 days.  I just couldn’t put them down!  They’re described as “young adult” and to be honest I felt that was an excuse for some lazy writing – especially the grand finale in the first book at the club.

But it’s still Harlen Coben and oh man these were just really good books that I couldn’t put down.  If you’re a Coben fan but skipped the Mickey Bolitar series due to the young adult tagline then don’t – you’re missing out!

I’m now reading the latest Mitch Rapp book.  Big props to Kyle Mills who has did a great job at capturing Rapp after Flynns untimely passing.

Book Recommendations:

In this section I give 3 random book recommendations.  They can be old books, they can be new.  But either way – I recommend you read them if the type of genre they are in appeals to you.   Feel free to e-mail suggestions to site@orderofbooks.com as many of the suggestions each month are from our readers.

It Ends With Us: One of the highest rated books written by Colleen Hoover. It’s a romance/new adult novel about Lily.  Lily is a small town girl who has, through hard work, came a long way.  She then meets a gorgeous neurosurgeon and everything seems just perfect.  However things aren’t as perfect as they initially seem, and things get interesting when Lilys first love returns.  Read more about Colleen Hoover.

The Black House: Peter May is an incredible author but many feel his Lewis Trilogy is the best series he has written.  The Black House is the first in the series.   A grisly murder has occurred on the isle of Lewis in Scotland and as it’s similar to a death that Edinburgh detective Fin MacLeod is investing, he heads over to the Isle to check it out.  There’s just so much to this story and it’s a great thriller.  Read more.

The Two Minute Rule:  Many of you will be familiar with Robert Crais due to his Elvis Cole novels, but he has written a few standalone novels and one of my favourites is The Two Minute Rule.  Max Holman just gets out of jail and all he wants is to see his son, who is a cop.  However on the day he is released he finds out his son was murdered along with other cops – and the official story by the police doesn’t seem to be correct.  This is a great book as are all of Robert Crais standalone novels.  Read more.

December 2016 Book Of The Month

The latest book in the SIGMA Force series by James Rollins comes out this month.

Sigma Force is a very popular series and this looks to be a good one.  The biblical plagues in ancient Egypt – if they happened once, could they happen again?  It looks that way and Sigma Force have a global crisis on their hands.  Read more.

Your Thoughts:

Last month I asked What Jack Reacher book is your favourite?  The feedback is posted later in the newsletter.

This month I’m asking What are some of your most memorable and favourite scenes from books?  (And try to answer without spoilers).

A few examples from myself:

The Runaway Jury: The ending and the verdict and how it all comes about.  I’ve read that book about 10 times and I still go crazy at the verdict scene and everything that leads to it and just how it all plays out.

Transfer of Power: The first Mitch Rapp book, and even though I read it over a decade ago I still think fondly of the scene where he first discovers Anna – and just how that entire scene plays out and what Rapp has to do.

Black Light: One of the Bob Lee Swagger books by Stephen Hunter.  The scene where they’re driving away and Red has the trap set up and….oh man, I just have to go read that again now.

E-mail us your feedback to site@OrderOfBooks.com or just reply to this e-mail, and we’ll pick the best comments and feature it in next months newsletter.
