Varg Veum is the protagonist in a series of Scandinavian crime fiction novels by Norwegian novelist Gunnar Staalesen. Varg Veum is a private investigator based in the west coast Norwegian city of Bergen. The series has been adapted into two different film series, both with Trond Espen Seim portraying Varg Veum.

Gunnar Staalesen is a Norwegian author of Scandinavian crime fiction novels. He writes the Varg Veum series. Gunnar was born and raised in Bergen, Norway, which is on the west coast of the country. He earned his Cand.philol degree from Universitetet i Bergen and worked in the main theatre in the city.
