Although the new Jack Ryan reboot has not been the fastest moving film project, with the announcement of Kenneth Branagh (Thor) directing, things are definitely starting to pick up.

In addition to being a director, Branagh is also an actor. Therefore, he is “in talks” to play the villain in the film. The character’s name is Viktor Stazov, who is a “financial wiz who, with the help of the Russian government, masterminds a plot to devalue American currency and thus destroy the U.S. economy.”

The film will be looking at the backstory of Jack Ryan (played by Chris Pine), dating back before he joined the CIA. Even though the Jack Ryan character has appeared in four films and has been portrayed by three different actors, unlike Amazing Spider-Man, we have never seen his “origin” played out on the silver screen.

We’ll update you on this adaptation of our favourite Tom Clancy character when news becomes available.
