Irvine Welsh almost lost the draft for his prequel of Trainspotting, Skagboys, because it was stored on an old Amstrad disk.

At first, he tried to buy an old one off eBay and when that didn’t work, he had to call a technician to recover it. The draft was actually the first 100,000 words of what became Trainspotting. There was another 100,000 words at the end that he ended up putting into other books.

Skagboys is about how the characters of Trainspotting got addicted to drugs in the first place. It’s set to be released later in the month.
