Shane Scully is a fictional LAPD Detective III who appears in novels by American author and television producer Stephen Cannell. Scully is an orphan, so he grew up alone and continues to be a loner (especially at the beginning of the series).

Stephen J. Cannell (1941-2010) was an American author and TV producer. He even did a bit of acting as well. He is known for creating the television shows The A-Team and 21 Jump Street among many other shows. As a novelist, he wrote the Shane Scully series and several standalone novels.
