While exploring The Treasure Chest, twins Felix and Maisie find themselves suddenly transported to a Massachusetts farm in 1836. Though initially disappointed not to have arrived in their cherished New York City, they soon discover a greater purpose in this unexpected destination. There, they encounter a young Clara Barton, the future founder of the American Red Cross. But who holds the message – the twins or Clara – and what significance does their meeting hold?
The Stolen Child is a standalone novel by Ann Hood. Haunted for decades by a choice he made as a young World War I soldier, Nick Burns was entrusted with the paintings and baby of a French artist who then vanished. Now, in 1974 and with only months to live, Nick enlists Jenny – a college dropout craving adventure – to help solve the mystery. Their search takes them from Parisian galleries to quiet provincial towns, ultimately leading to the Museum of Tears, the life’s work of a reclusive Italian craftsman. Together, the hopeful Jenny and the world-weary Nick confront regret, betrayal, and the pasts they can no longer escape.
The Obituary Writer by Ann Hood is a standalone novel. On the day John F. Kennedy takes the oath of office, Claire – a determined young wife and mother captivated by Jackie O’s glamour – faces a difficult choice: remain in a loveless marriage or pursue the man she loves, who may be the father of her unborn child. Meanwhile, decades earlier in 1919, Vivien Lowe, an obituary writer, searches for her missing lover lost in the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. Through telling the stories of the deceased, Vivien helps others navigate their grief while confronting her own profound loss. The unexpected link between Claire and Vivien will alter one of their lives in remarkable and unforeseen ways.
Places to Stay the Night is a standalone novel by Ann Hood. Libby Harper, discontent with her suburban existence, leaves Massachusetts behind – abandoning her two teenage children and her husband of eighteen years, Tom – to chase her dreams of Hollywood fame before it’s too late. Dana, her daughter, has long anticipated her mother’s departure, while her troubled older brother Troy struggles for Libby’s attention. But it is Tom who suffers most. Once the town’s most admired couple with Libby, he now finds himself lost and adrift until Renata Handy returns to their hometown with her terminally ill daughter. Rekindling old feelings and offering unexpected support, Renata becomes a beacon of hope for Tom and his fractured family.
