Bianca Marais Synopses: Hum If You Don’t Know the Words is a standalone coming-of-age novel by Bianca Marais. In 1970s South Africa, ten-year-old Robin Conrad lives a sheltered life in Johannesburg, unaware of the deeper injustices surrounding her. In a distant village in the Transkei, Beauty Mbali, a Xhosa mother, struggles to raise her family alone after her husband’s death. Their paths should never have crossed – until the Soweto Uprising sparks a wave of unrest that turns both their lives upside down. Robin’s parents are killed in the chaos, and Beauty’s daughter disappears. Brought together by tragedy, the two must navigate a world fractured by race, grief, and change as they search for meaning, healing, and each other.
In If You Want to Make God Laugh by Bianca Marais, seventeen-year-old Zodwa lives in a squatter camp outside Johannesburg, facing the daily realities of poverty, political unrest, and an AIDS crisis. Eight months pregnant, she keeps dangerous secrets that could cost her everything.
Elsewhere, Ruth, a wealthy socialite, seems to have an enviable life – yet a painful longing leads to her emotional collapse. At the same time in Zaire, Delilah, a former nun burdened by shame and regret, finds herself drawn back to the South African town she once called home.
When Ruth and Delilah return to their rural community to recover, the discovery of an abandoned newborn shakes their world – and brings Zodwa’s life crashing into theirs. As the women confront long-held assumptions about race, motherhood, and identity, the fate of one child binds their lives in unexpected ways.
The Witches of Moonshyne Manor is a Halloween paranormal fantasy novel by Bianca Marais. Five elderly witches are in crisis as an angry mob gathers to tear down Moonshyne Manor. Queenie, the group’s de facto leader, admits they’ve defaulted on their mortgage, but hopes the return of Ruby – absent for over thirty years – will fix everything.
Their troubles soon deepen. A vengeful man claims the witches stole his family’s inheritance, and Queenie strikes a desperate bargain with a dangerous force. Ruby’s arrival, far from saving them, brings more complications.
As their aging magic falters, the witches must rely on each other – and on Persephone, a rebellious young TikToker with a cause. With the clock ticking, buried secrets rise, alliances are tested, and the sisterhood faces a final showdown to protect the home they love.
