C.P. Snow (1905-1980) was an English author of literary fiction. Besides being a novelist, Snow was a physicist. He served in several positions with the British Civil Service as well as in the government. Snow was made a life peer by Queen Elizabeth II in 1957, giving him the title of Baron Snow. His series, Strangers and Brothers, follows narrator Lewis Eliot. The series took over 30 years to write. He married fellow novelist Pamela Hansford Johnson, who he had one son with.

The Search is a standalone novel by C.P. Snow. This story told in the first person starts with a child’s interest in the night sky. A telescope starts a lifetime’s interest in science. The narrator goes up to King’s College, London to study. As a fellow at Cambridge he embarks on love affairs and searches for love at the same time as career success. Finally, contentment in love exhausts his passion for research.
