Flowers Over the Inferno is the first book in the Teresa Battaglia series. The story follows Superintendent Teresa Battaglia who has fought for nearly four decades to earn her place in the male-dominated Italian police force. In this story, she is called in to investigate a gruesome murder in a mountainside town. She is paired with a young male inspector who she is keeping at arm’s length. The killer is loose in this remote town and they seem to be focusing on a group of local children. As she gets deeper into the investigation, Teresa will have to confront the possibility that her faculties are no longer what they once were and that they may fail her before the chase is over.

The series continues with The Sleeping Nymph. The story sees Teresa getting a cold case of a decades-old murder investigation on her desk. A DNA analysis has revealed that that a painting from World War II contains human remains. The evidence leads her to Val Resia, one of Italy’s most isolated, untouched regions. She’s on to something in this investigation when a fresh human heart is hung at the valley’s entrance as a warning. Teresa will hunt the ruthless killer while continued to deal with her own deteriorating abilities.
