
L. Frank Baum (1856-1919) was an American author of children’s literature and fantasy novels. He is most famous for creating the Land of Oz, including The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which was made into one of the most-watched classic films of all time, The Wizard of Oz. He would follow that novel up with 13 sequels. Baum was able to predict inventions such as television, augmented reality, laptops and wireless phones. He also wrote poetry, screenplays, edited a newspaper and more.
L. Frank Baum made his debut as a published author of fiction in 1897 with a collection of fairy tales titled Mother Goose in Prose. His first novel was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900. Over the course of his career, he wrote 59 novels (four of which were lost), 83 short stories, over 200 poems and more. His last original work was Glinda of Oz, published in 1920.
