Any fan of Game of Thrones, whether it be the TV show or the novels, will be pleased to know that the popular series has unsurprisingly been renewed by HBO. The second season, which just premiered, opened to record ratings.

Season 3 will be based on the first half of George R.R. Martin‘s A Storm of Swords, give or take some. The book is over 1200 pages in paperback form, so the producers have decided to break the book up over two seasons.

GRRM says that the third season is another ten episode order, but it has yet to be confirmed. He’s also said that he will write the seventh episode, which has the tentative title of “Autumn Storms.”

So far, this season is averaging 3.9 million viewers for debut episodes. The premiere’s all-viewing total is currently at 8.3 million.
