The publishing world is always itching to find the “next” [insert popular author’s name here]. The next “next” could be Abigail Gibbs, who has signed a six-figure deal with HarperCollins for her debut novel The Dark Heroine: Dinner With a Vampire.

Gibbs first wrote the story when she was 15 using the pen name Canse12. The chapters were uploaded to Wattpad and after 17 million views, she was discovered.

“I really enjoyed the Twilight Saga, but I felt it could go further and be more bloody and edgy,” Gibbs tells BBC Breakfast.

Rough drafts of the first 20 chapters are available on Wattpad (at least for the time being).

Abigail Gibbs joins E.L. James as Twilight-inspired authors. Will she be anywhere near as successful? Only time will tell.
