Warner Bros. has decided to take a pass on Ron Howard’s proposal to adapt Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower series.

Unfortunately, while not a death blow to a possible adaptation, this is still a huge hit to the chances of such a project being undertaken. There aren’t too many studios willing to take such an ambitious project on. Ron Howard’s home studio, Universal Pictures, has already passed.

The best chance for a Dark Tower adaptation seems to be a premium cable series, like Game of Thrones. We’ll see if that’s the direction they end up going.
