Martin Day Synopses: In Another Girl, Another Planet by Martin Day and Len Beech, Bernice Summerfield becomes caught up in a web of political intrigue, illegal weapons trafficking, and the lingering consequences of a centuries‑old romance that ended in scandal. What begins as an investigation soon draws her into events that reach far beyond any single crime or conspiracy.
As Bernice follows the trail of secrets and competing interests, she uncovers connections between the present crisis and a long‑buried past. Powerful individuals have their own agendas, and the truth has been hidden for generations. With tensions rising and the future of an entire world at stake, Bernice must untangle a mystery rooted in heartbreak, betrayal, and political ambition.
To prevent disaster, she must uncover the truth before the consequences of the past reshape the future of a planet.
In Doctor Who: The Companion Chronicles – The Second Doctor, Volume 3, four adventures from the Companion Chronicles revisit the era of the Second Doctor through the memories of his travelling companions. Combining narration and drama, the stories explore events from the Doctor’s life from the perspective of those who shared his journeys.
The set features Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury, who return to the roles of Jamie McCrimmon and Zoe Heriot. Through their recollections, listeners experience new tales that expand on the world of the Second Doctor, revisiting familiar characters and exploring previously untold adventures from one of the classic eras of Doctor Who.
In The Sleep of Reason, Caroline “Laska” Darnell is admitted to the Retreat after her latest suicide attempt. The experimental medical centre, hidden among woodlands, is meant to offer treatment and recovery. Instead, Laska is horrified to discover that she has seen the place before in recurring nightmares, visions of an old building haunted by ghostly dogs with glowing eyes.
As Laska struggles to come to terms with her surroundings, she becomes convinced that a dark presence connected to the Retreat’s past is still at work. Her fears deepen when she encounters the enigmatic Dr. Smith, a man who seems unusually interested in both the institution’s history and the disturbing dreams that plague her. Yet Laska’s fragile grasp on reality leaves her uncertain about whom she can trust, including herself.
As the boundary between nightmare and reality grows increasingly blurred, Laska must uncover the truth behind the Retreat and the forces that seem determined to destroy it. Set within the Eighth Doctor Adventures range, The Sleep of Reason blends psychological suspense, mystery, and horror as its characters confront secrets buried deep within the past.
