Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been given the honour of receiving the “Freedom of the City of London” due to her contributions in children’s literature. The British novelist has sold more than 450 million copies of her Harry Potter books.

Oxford undergraduate Samantha Shannon, who has been touted as “the next J.K. Rowling” (no pressure) has signed a six-figure deal with Bloomsbury. Shannon’s futuristic fantasy novel, The Bone Season, was purchased immediately after Bloomsbury’s editor-in-chief Alexandra Pringle read it.

Lionsgate has announced that Francis Lawrence will be directing Catching Fire, the sequel to the hit movie The Hunger Games. Lawrence has directed such movies as I Am Legend, Constantine and Water for Elephants.

James Bond will be making a very special appearance at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The London Evening Standard is reporting that James Bond (meaning Daniel Craig playing the character) will be knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in a pre-taped video segment.
