A.K. Larkwood Synopses: The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood is book 1 in the Serpent Gates series. Csorwe will do what she must – climb the mountain, enter the Shrine of the Unspoken, and claim the honor of sacrifice.

But on the day she is meant to die, a powerful mage offers her another path. Leave with him and live. Turn from her destiny, abandon her god, and become his sword – a thief, a spy, an assassin tasked with toppling an empire and helping him reclaim his lost throne.

Yet Csorwe will soon discover that gods do not forget – and if she survives long enough, every debt will come due.

The second book in A.K. Larkwood’s Serpent Gates series is The Thousand Eyes. Two years after defying the wizard Belthandros Sethennai and venturing into the great unknown, Csorwe and Shuthmili have carved out a new life, hunting for secrets among the ruins of an ancient snake empire.

Joining them is Tal Charossa, eager to leave behind the humiliation and heartbreak of his past – even if it means enduring the company of his old rival and her insufferable girlfriend.

All three would be content never to see Sethennai again. But when a routine expedition goes horribly wrong and a terrifying imperial relic stirs to life, they discover that a common enemy might be the only thing powerful enough to drag them back into his orbit.

A.K. Larkwood Reviews: I really enjoyed The Unspoken Name – it’s a unique blend of character-driven storytelling and action. The pacing occasionally wavered, and I personally wanted a more epic ending, but the conclusion fits the story.

The characters are richly developed, each with clear motivations and backstories that make their choices feel grounded and compelling. Even the slower, character-focused moments never felt dull.

I was unexpectedly invested in the romance, which felt genuine and heartfelt rather than cheesy. I found myself rooting for these two characters to find happiness in their multiverse adventures.

The world-building is subtle but fascinating, with unique concepts that make me eager to explore more of this universe. I’ve preordered the sequel and can’t wait to see what A.K. Larkwood does next – if her debut is this strong, the future looks very promising. -M.

I loved The Thousand Eyes so much, I didn’t want it to end or say goodbye to the characters – a rare feeling for me. The story has a bold, adventurous spirit, balanced with humour and a light touch even in darker moments, and it all works beautifully. A.K. Larkwood is now an automatic pre-order for me. Highly recommended! -S.
