Order of Bill Watterson Books
American cartoonist Bill Watterson is the creator of the Calvin and Hobbes – a popular syndicated comic strip that ran from 1985 to 1995.
Watterson’s influences include Peanuts, Krazy Kat, Pogo and Little Nemo in Slumberland. He named the characters after John Calvin and Thomas Hobbes as a nod to his days studying political science at Kenyon College. Bill Watterson Synopses: Calvin and Hobbes is a black and white collection that ranges from the first strip that was published on November 18, 1985 until August 17, 1986. It includes a foreword by Garry Trudeau (Doonesbury) and original artwork.
Something Under the Bed is Drooling is a collection of the Calvin and Hobbes strips that were syndicated between August 18, 1986 and May 22, 1987. It has original artwork. The foreword was written by Pat Oliphant. The book is in black and white.
The Essential Calvin and Hobbes: A Calvin and Hobbes Treasury takes the strips from the previous two collections (Calvin and Hobbes and Something Under the Bed is Drooling) and combines them into one collection. Sunday strips are in colour!
