Order of Caroline Kepnes Books
Caroline Kepnes is an American author of psychological thriller novels. She writes the You series. Caroline grew up in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and received an undergraduate degree in American Civilization. Her novel You was made into a TV series by the same name.
Kepnes’ debut thriller, You was published in 2014. The novel subverts traditional romantic-comedy conventions by portraying the protagonist as a violent stalker and serial killer, reflecting the author’s experiences during a particularly dark period marked by her father’s death from cancer and other personal challenges. Initially hesitant to categorize the character Joe as a serial killer, Kepnes later acknowledged that, despite his sensitivity, his actions and thoughts align with the definition of a serial killer.
