Kelly Barnhill is an American author of YA fantasy novels and non-fiction books. Prior to being a novelist, Kelly worked as a teacher, bartender, waitress, park ranger, secretary, and janitor. She doesn’t feel any of these experiences prepared her for anything in life other than to tell stories, so that is what she does (quite happily). She earned the Newbery Medal in 2017, in addition to fellowships from the Jerome Foundation and the Minnesota State Arts Board, and the McKnight Foundation. She has also received the World Fantasy Award, Parents Choice Gold Award, the Texas Library Association Bluebonnet, and a Charlotte Huck Honor. Kelly is married to her husband, Ted Barnhill, and has three children.

Kelly Barnhill made her debut as a published author in 2008 with the non-fiction book Animals with No Eyes. Her debut as a novelist was in 2011 with the novel The Mostly True Story of Jack. Below is a list of Kelly Barnhill’s books in order of when they were first released:

Kelly Barnhill Synopsis: The Mostly True Story of Jack is a standalone novel by Kelly Barnhill. When Jack is sent to Hazelwood, Iowa, to live with his strange aunt and uncle, he expects a boring summer. Little does he know that the people of Hazelwood have been waiting for him for quite a long time. When he arrives, he begins to make actual friends for the first time in his life – but the town bully beats him up and the richest man in town begins to plot Jack’s imminent, and hopefully painful, demise. It’s up to Jack to figure out why suddenly everyone cares so much about him. Back home he was practically… invisible.
