If You Like Rita Lakin Books, You’ll Love…

Rita Lakin Synopsis: In A Summer Without Boys by Rita Lakin, it’s the summer of ’44 and Ruth Hailey is 15 years old. She’s on a bus to a resort in the Catskills along with her mother. The trip sounds promising – if you like boredom and desperation. No boys. She can already hand in her “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” assignment for school in the fall – a blank page. Fast forward two months. Ruth could have written a book about her absent father; about her mother and the other lonely women in the hotel; about Abe, the son of the resort’s owner; and about a 16 year-old who had lived enough for a lifetime. Long since out of print, A Summer Without Boys has recently been reissued in eBook format.
