Edward X. Delaney is the central character in a series of mystery novels by American novelist Lawrence Sanders. Delaney is a New York cop who was portrayed by Frank Sinatra in the film adaptation.

Lawrence Sanders (1920-1998) was an American author of crime fiction and mystery novels. He worked as an editorial writer for a magazine and then switched to writing fiction. His series include the Archy McNally, Edward X. Delaney, The Commandment and others.
