Raymond Chandler (1888-1959) was an American novelist as well as a screenwriter. He is best known for his hardboiled detective novels and stories (largely featuring Philip Marlowe) and influenced many people in different mediums, including authors Robert B. Parker, Robert Crais, Michael Connelly and filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers.
