Helen Hoang is a Vietnamese-American author who lives in California. She is best know as the author of the romantic stories, The Kiss Quotient and The Bride Test.

Hoang was born and raised in Minnesota before moving to California where she still lives today. She struggled with social anxiety as a kid and often comforted herself by reading romance novels. In 2016, she was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and the events of that inspired a lot of the writing in The Kiss Quotient. Hoang has two kids and lives with them (and her husband) in San Diego.

Hoang’s first book was The Kiss Quotient that got a ton of solid reviews at the time. The book introduces us to Stella Lane, a person who believes in math above all else. In her job she comes up with algorithms that predict customer purchases that has made her rich, but that work hasn’t done much for her dating life. Her Asperger’s doesn’t help nor does her aversion to French kissing as it reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned. To fix this, she approaches it analytically and decides to hire a escort to help her practice all this stuff. Of course, things get dicey when their no-nonsense partnership starts to develop some real feelings.

The Bride Test also features a protaganist with autism and introduces us to Khai Diep. He is a unique character who feels he’s defective because he doesn’t seem to experience emotions like grief and love. His family doesn’t believe him though and they know that he just experiences things differently than most. His mother decides to take matters into her own hands regarding her son’s life and returns to Vietnam to find him a bride. The girl she finds is perfect, but seducing Khai will be no easy task.
