P.N. Elrod is an American urban fantasy author who is best known for her Vampire Files series of books. She is also the author of the Jonathan Barrett, Gentleman Vampire series as well as several short stories. She has also edited numerous anthologies.
One of her early breaks in her career was working with the actor Nigel Bennett on the Lord Richard, Vampire series. Bennett had starred on the television show Forever Knight that Elrod was a big fan of. This book series was different from his character of the show and Elrod described it as a “James Bond with fangs” character.

Red Death is the first book in the adventures of Jonathan Barrett, Gentleman Vampire. The book sees a young man heading to London in 1773 to pursue a college education. Upon arrival, this man finds himself highly attracted to the beautiful Nora Jones who seduces him. That night, she consumes his blood and the young man becomes a vampire. Jonathan Barrett is that vampire, a fact that he discovers when he returns home to America to join the Armed Forces. Instead of having a taste for traditional things that keep a man alive, he finds himself hungering for human blood.
The first book in the Vampire Files series is called Bloodlist. This series does a great job of combining the hard-boiled detective story with the supernatural. Jack Fleming is an ace reporter when he is bitten and his first case is a doozy: figure out who killed him. As he’s adjusting to vampire life, he’s spotted by a local private investigator who recruits him to help. The two make a great time and suddenly Jack Fleming has a new mission in life: to find out who killed him.
