Kauffmann debuted with Another Place You’ve Never Been: A Novel. The book tells the story of a woman named Tracy who still lives in her hometown of Buffalo, NY. She works at a restaurant, but holds dreams of a career where she can use her creative talents. The book explores her life in many different times and from many different points of view as Kauffmann manages to explore her life from multiple directions. The book does a fantastic job of playing with people and time to show how connected we all are.

The House on Fripp Island is a page-turning from Kauffmann about two families on vacation together off the coast of South Carolina. The Daly family is rather wealthy and Fripp Island is a prime spot for them. Lisa Daly invites her childhood friend Poppy Ford and her family the on trip, all expenses paid, and they accept as they could never afford this trip on their own. Once they arrive on the island, everyone’s secrets start to bubble to the surface. By the time they all leave, someone won’t be returning with them.
