British supermarket giant Tesco has purchased Andy McNab‘s eBook website Mobcast for a reported £4.5 million (of which the Nick Stone author will apparently get over £1m).

The Mobcast website allows users to download eBooks to mobile devices including phones and tablets.

The deal includes agreements with major publishers and over 130,000 titles in its catalogue.

A similar deal was made in June when Sainsbury’s acquired Anobii from HMV for a mere £1.

This purchase is Tesco’s first foray into the world of eBooks, which had previously used a third party provide Tesco-branded eBooks.
