The final novel written by the late Irish author Maeve Binchy, A Week in Winter, has proven to be a major Christmas blockbuster; the biggest of her career.

The novel’s sales, published last month by Orion, are up nearly 50% over her previous publication, Minding Frankie.

“Sales of A Week in Winter are 47pc up on Maeve’s last novel published in 2010, and Orion had their biggest ever first week sales at Amazon for a novel by her,” says Orion spokeswoman Louise Page.

The novel is about a country house hotel on the west coast of Ireland and the people who work and stay there.

Binchy, who passed away in July, had her books translated into 30 languages and sold 40 million books during her great career.
