Under the Dome is the next Stephen King novel to make TV – as a series on CBS, no less. The post-apocalyptic novel is about a small town in New England that suddenly gets sealed off by a large transparent dome. Nobody knows how it came to be or how to get rid of it.

“This is a great novel coming to the television screen with outstanding auspices and in-season production values to create a summer programming event,” said Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment. “We’re excited to transport audiences Under the Dome and into the extraordinary world that Stephen King has imagined.”

The series was originally being developed for Showtime, but with the success of The Walking Dead on AMC and Revolution on NBC, CBS wanted something in the same genre.

It won’t be exactly the same as the novel, however… For one thing, it will be an ongoing series rather than a mini-series.

The series will air this summer, with Brian K. Vaughn, Neal Baer, Stephen King, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Stacey Snider onboard as executive producers.
