Warner Bros. is in discussions to develop The Dark Tower series. Universal announced an ambitious plan to release three films and a television series back in September 2010 and put the project on turnaround eight months ago. Warner Bros. is currently the only studio looking to take the Stephen King series on.

The series takes place in an alternate universe that resembles the world we see in Western films. The last of the gunslingers must find his way to the Dark Tower, that is the center of all universes.

Stephen King, Weed Road Pictures and Imagine Entertainment (Ron Howard & Brian Glazer) are looking to produce the project. It has been announced that Ron Howard would be directing the first film if plans come to fruition.

This is not the first attempt at a big screen adaptation of The Dark Tower. Lost’s J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof had optioned the rights in the past, but were unable to get the project greenlit.
