Gillian Linscott Synopses: Sister Beneath the Sheet is the first Nell Bray novel by Gillian Linscott. In the springtime of Biarritz, France, Edwardian society is enjoying its seasonal play, but the fashionable crowd is thrown into turmoil by the suicide of Topaz Brown, a high-class prostitute. Topaz has left her fortune to England’s suffragette movement, prompting suffragette Nell Bray to be sent to Biarritz to protect the money and keep its scandalous origin secret. However, Nell quickly discovers that Topaz’s death may not have been a suicide after all. Along with tracking one of her more rebellious suffragette sisters, who arrives in town with a gun and a vendetta against an MP, Nell finds herself navigating Biarritz’s glamorous boulevards and its sordid underbelly, uncovering more than she ever expected.

Hanging on the Wire is book 2 in the Nell Bray series by Gillian Linscott. During the height of World War I, amateur sleuth Nell Bray is fully immersed in the suffragette movement when she is called upon to investigate a mysterious case at Nantgarrew military hospital. Her friend Jenny works there, and when she asks Nell to look into an attempted murder, Nell finds herself drawn into a strange and unsettling world. At Nantgarrew, which specializes in Freudian analysis, there are acts of sabotage against Freud’s theories, a soldier with a dangerous cache of weapons under his bed, and another who is obsessed with reaching Moscow by bicycle. As the investigation deepens, Nell is horrified when the would-be assassin finally succeeds in their deadly aim. Now, determined to uncover the truth, Nell must navigate the secrets of Nantgarrew to solve the murder.

Widow’s Peak (aka An Easy Day for a Lady) is the third book in the Nell Bray Mystery series. Energetic suffragette Nell Bray is enjoying a climbing holiday when a rescue team uncovers the body of an Englishman who has been lost to a glacier for thirty years. Intrigued by the discovery, Nell cannot resist delving into the mystery when she learns that his death may not have been an accident. As she investigates, Nell finds herself unraveling secrets that suggest a darker, more complicated story behind the man’s untimely demise.

Stage Fright by Gillian Linscott is the fourth book in the Nell Bray series. As George Bernard Shaw prepares for the production of his latest work, Cinderella Revisited—a scathing critique of England’s divorce laws—he is forced to call upon Nell Bray when his leading lady becomes the target of violent threats. With her sharp intellect and tenacity, Nell dives into the investigation, navigating the world of theatre and the powerful figures behind the production, all while uncovering deeper secrets that threaten to derail Shaw’s controversial play.
