Del Sandeen Synopses: In This Cursed House, Jemma Barker is desperate for a fresh start. Living in 1962 Chicago, she has spent her life trying to ignore her ability to see spirits. When an unexpected job offer takes her to New Orleans, she seizes the opportunity to leave her past behind and begin again.
Her new employers, the wealthy Duchon family, are anything but ordinary. The family’s lighter-skinned members look down on Jemma, and tensions simmer beneath the surface of their grand home. From the formidable matriarch Honorine to the enigmatic Fosette, every member of the household seems to be hiding something. Before long, Jemma learns the truth: the Duchons believe their family is cursed, and they are convinced she is the key to breaking it.
As Jemma becomes entangled in the family’s affairs, she is forced to confront the gift she has spent years avoiding. The deeper she digs, the more she uncovers about the Duchons’ history and the secrets that have haunted them for generations. With each revelation, it becomes clear that her fate is tied to theirs, and that failure could cost her far more than a second chance at a new life.
In These Walls Remember, sisters Mickie and Delilah inherit a house in Savannah, Georgia, from a distant relative they barely knew. Their plan is simple: sell the property, split the proceeds, and move on with their lives. Ignoring a warning not to enter the attic, they begin exploring the house and quickly discover that it carries a troubled history.
As they learn more about the property’s past, strange events begin to disrupt their lives. Both sisters experience unsettling visions, gaps in memory, and eerie traces of former residents, some of whom disappeared while living in the house. The longer they stay, the more they suspect that their neighbors know far more about the house than they are willing to admit.
At the same time, Delilah develops an increasingly intense attachment to the property. Her behavior changes in ways that alarm Mickie, who becomes convinced that something within the house is exerting a dangerous influence. To save her sister and uncover the truth, Mickie must confront the secrets hidden within the house before its hold on them becomes impossible to break.
