Diane Fanning is an American author best known for writing crime fiction and non-fiction. She is best known for the Edgar nominated Written in Blood and Through the Window.

Fanning was born in Baltimore, Maryland and then went on to attend Lynchburg College in Virginia. After college she went to work in advertising and won numerous awards for her work. During this time, she also did freelance writing and eventually turned to writing books. She was given the Defenders of the Innocent Award by the Illinois Innocence Project after she corresponded with serial killer Tommy Lynn Sells and he confessed to a crime that someone else had been arrested for.
