If You Like Elizabeth Goudge Books, You’ll Love…
The Little White Horse is about a young orphan named Maria who is taken in at Moonacre Manor, a place that feels like Paradise as every human and animal that she meets are friendly and kind. Maria discovers a dark secret that shadows the town and seeks to find out more. Her goal is to change it, and give her story a happy ending. This book has been called scary and romantic in all the right places.
Another great read is The Rosemary Tree. This book follows John Wentworth in the aftermath of World War II. The family is having a rough go as his wife feels trapped by the vicarage, his daughters attend a dysfunctional school, and it is only his aging nanny that is holding the family together. Things are thrown for a loop when Michael Stone, his wife’s childhood love, is released from prison and comes looking for her. He is a disruption to their lives, but he just might be the exact thing they all need. One of Elizabeth’s best as she helps us see the beauty of the world and out spiritual relationship with it.
