Elizabeth de Beauchamp Goudge was a bestselling British author of children’s books and novels. She was awarded with the prestigous Carnagie Award for her book The Little White Horse. She has been cited by J.K. Rowling as a major influence on her career and the Harry Potter books.
Goudge was born in the cathedral city of Wells where her father worked at the Theological college. The family would later move to Ely where they would stay until her father’s death. Goudge and her mother went to Marldon on a vacation, but when World War II started they ended up moving there. This is where she wrote many of her early books. In 1951, after her mother died, she would move to Oxfordshire where she would live until her death.

Things are thrown for a loop when Michael Stone, his wife’s childhood love, is released from prison and comes looking for her. He is a disruption to their lives, but he just might be the exact thing they all need. One of Elizabeth’s best as she helps us see the beauty of the world and out spiritual relationship with it.
