Ryk Brown is an American author and creator of The Frontiers Saga. Ryk created this series with serialization in mind and releases each book as a new “episode”.
Brown always had interest in writing, but never decided to pursue it. He was working as a paramedic at a particularly slow ambulance station when he decided to write a science fiction novel with a friend, just to say that he did it. After that he went back to his life as a paramedic and forgot about the book. He would end up opening a computer repair shop for six years, but when the economy turned he was forced to close. At this time is when he decided to dust off that novel. He soon realized that he’d be much happier starting fresh and doing something more serialized, which is when The Frontiers Saga was born.

The first episode in the series is Aurora: CV-01. This has a familiar start as it introduces us to a young man on his first mission. The Earth is still recovering from nuclear war and needs humans to get it right, but when they are being threatened by an alien force those plans will need to be put on old. This is a good start to the military space series.
Brown also published a standalone novel called Arrival. This book tells a very realistic story about survivors of Earth trying to find a new home across the cosmos. The book spans for generations and the challenges that they face in traveling such a great distance and reaching a new home. It also features themes of how we are living today and how this could be our future if we aren’t careful. A more mature work from Brown.
