Flat Spin is the first book in the Cordell Logan series. The book follows Cordell, a flight instructor and buddhist with a shadowy past. His ex-wife comes to him for help after her husband was murdered. The husband, Arlo, and Cordell were once comrades in the military and his ex-wife thinks his death may be tied to the top secret work that they did. Logan relies on his old military skills to hunt the killer while also carrying a secret flame for his ex-wife, the one that got away.

Freed followed that book up with Fangs Out. This book has an interesting case where a man on death row, convicted of killing a Vietnam hero’s daughter, admits that he wasn’t the real murderer and that the actual killer was a U.S. Defense contractor. The pilot desperately wants to find out the truth about this and hires Cordell to investigate.
