Diana Biller Synopses: In The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller, Alva Webster returns to New York in 1875 determined to rebuild her life. After years of public scrutiny for leaving her abusive husband, his death allows her to start over. She purchases a neglected mansion in Hyde Park and sets out to restore both the property and her reputation, determined to avoid any further scandal.

Her plans are disrupted when strange events within the house suggest it may be haunted. Reluctantly, Alva seeks help from Professor Samuel Moore, an eccentric scientist whose interest in the supernatural is matched only by his enthusiasm for investigating it. Despite her efforts to keep him at a distance, Sam becomes an increasingly important ally.

As they search for the truth behind the mansion’s unsettling history, Alva and Sam uncover long‑buried secrets hidden within the house. Along the way, they are forced to confront their own pasts and the possibility of a future neither of them expected.

In The Brightest Star in Paris, Amelie St. James has carefully built a new life for herself following the Siege of Paris. As the celebrated prima ballerina of the Paris Opera Ballet, she is known as “St. Amie,” a symbol of grace and respectability created to help restore the company’s reputation. The image protects both Amelie and her sister, but it is built on omissions and secrets she would rather leave in the past.

Her carefully ordered life is disrupted when Benedict Moore, the man she once loved, returns to Paris. Now a physician and scientist, Benedict has never forgotten Amelie or the role she played in helping him through a difficult period in his life. When he discovers she is facing unexpected troubles, he is determined to help.

To protect themselves from scrutiny and unwanted attention, Amelie and Benedict begin a fake courtship that soon becomes more complicated than either anticipated. As old feelings resurface and lingering secrets come to light, they must decide whether they are willing to risk their hard‑won futures for a second chance at happiness. Set against the backdrop of post‑siege Paris, The Brightest Star in Paris follows two people confronting the past while determining whether they still have a place in each other’s future.

In the short story A Christmas Spark, Winnifred Byrne is thrilled to be hired by the renowned scientist John Moore. In 1843, opportunities for women in science are limited, and the position offers a chance to take part in the work she loves. What she does not anticipate is how difficult it will be to focus on her experiments when her employer proves so distracting.

John, meanwhile, is convinced Winnifred is an exasperating assistant. She makes terrible tea, has a habit of causing accidents in the laboratory, and seems determined to disrupt his orderly routine. Yet he cannot ignore her intelligence, warmth, and enthusiasm, all of which make it increasingly difficult to maintain a professional distance.

As winter settles in and Christmas approaches, their working relationship gradually develops into a friendship. The more time they spend together, the clearer it becomes that each has found an equal in the other, both inside and outside the laboratory.
