Erica James is a British author who specializes in romance novel. She is a former winner of the Romantic Novel of the Year Award for her 2006 novel, Gardens of Delight.

James lives in two homes, one in Lake Como, Italy and one in Suffolk, Cheshire. She is the mother of two children who have grown out of the house. Erica came to writing after taking a creative writing course at the Arvon Foundation, a charitable organization in the United Kingdom.

The brochure of the Gardens of Delight (in the novel, Gardens of Delight) promises visitors a chance to visit some of the most beautiful gardens in the world on their trip to the Lake Como area of Italy. Lucy is enticed by the opportunity, but it is about more than just the gardens. Her father also lives in the area and she has not seen him since she was a teenager. While Helen lives in the Old Rectory and decides to throw herself fully into her garden. She needs help to do so and joins a local Garden Club. There is also Conrad who isn’t interested in gardening, but his elderly uncle who lives with him is and he decides to take him to the Gardens of Delight Tour.

Swallowtail Summer takes place in Linston End, the summer home of three families for the past several decades. The family all shares memories of the place from the picnics on the river to the hunt for swallowtail butterflies to sharing drinks and laughs on the pavilion. Things have changed though as Alastair recently lost his wife and has seen some surprises come his way. He makes a decision that will shock this group of friends and it will make changes in all of their lives.
