Amazon announced that it has purchased the North American rights to the James Bond novels by Ian Fleming. It’s reportedly a ten-year deal where Amazon will get the rights to both the print books and the eBooks. James Bond print books have sold over 100 million copies worlwide.

The books in question are Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, Moonraker, Diamonds Are Forever, From Russia With Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger, For Your Eyes Only, Thunderball, The Spy Who Loved Me, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, You Only Live Twice, The Man With The Golden Gun and Octopussy & The Living Daylights.

After Fleming’s passing in 1964, his estate has hired other authors to write Bond novels, including John Gardner, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Faulks, Jeffery Deaver, Kingsley Amis and just recently William Boyd. These books are not under the agreement.

Amazon will also get the rights to Ian Fleming’s non-fiction books Thrilling Cities and The Diamond Smugglers.

Corinne Turner of Ian Fleming Publications Ltd. commented on the deal by saying, “We are excited to be using the opportunity of this re-license to introduce Ian Fleming’s books to a broader audience in the USA, and we believe that Amazon Publishing has the ability to place the books back at the heart of the Bond brand, balancing traditional publishing routes with new technologies and new ways of reaching our readers.”

The James Bond eBooks will be sold exclusively at Amazon.com.
