Bryce Courtenay (1933-2012) was a South African-Australian author of historical fiction and coming-of-age stories. His novels are generally set in either South Africa and Australia. Although Courtenay is one of the most successful authors to come out of Australia, only one of his books has been published in the United States – The Power of One. Courtenay doubted that The Power of One would see much success, but became a bestselling novel in Australia and was adapted into a film. Sadly, Courtenay passed away due to gastric cancer in 2012.
